Current compass heading and qibla direction are given in terms of magnetic azimuths. In all but a very few instances, the direction of qibla is the same regardless whether true or magnetic bearings are applied.

When checking against published tables for qibla direction, most authorities will release either the figures for directions relative to True North while others will also include magnetic azimuths and local declination values. This may be confusing for those unfamiliar with a magnetic compass or living in areas where there are large magnetic declinations (especially true for geographies 60° and beyond from the equator). This is why we have included the information on approximate magnetic declination as well as figure for qibla relative to true north as a guide.
